Experiencing Vietnamese Language and Culture with American Students

At the end of May 2026, the Center for Vietnamese Studies and Language (VSLC) welcomed a group of American students to participate in a short-term Vietnamese Language and Culture Program at Ton Duc Thang University.

During the two-week course, students learned practical Vietnamese communication skills for everyday situations, including greetings, self-introductions, and exploring Vietnamese cuisine. The lessons were designed to be interactive and highly applicable, helping students build confidence in using Vietnamese in real-life contexts.

One of the activities that students particularly enjoyed was practicing how to order food in Vietnamese. Through restaurant role-play activities, students worked in groups and took turns acting as restaurant staff and customers, allowing them to develop their communication skills in realistic situations. In addition, they demonstrated remarkable creativity by creating their own engaging dialogues and even transforming food-ordering conversations into fun Vietnamese songs.

The lively and open learning environment, together with the students’ enthusiasm and active participation, created many memorable moments throughout the program. Through this experience, students not only improved their Vietnamese language skills but also gained valuable insights into Vietnamese culture, cuisine, and people.

The Center for Vietnamese Studies and Language sincerely thanks the group of American students for choosing to participate in the program. We hope that their experiences at Ton Duc Thang University will become cherished memories and inspire them to continue exploring the Vietnamese language and culture in the future.
