Elementary Vietnamese 1

(E1)

- Drill learners in pronunciation, especially in tones;

- Provide learners fundamental vocabulary and basic grammatical structures of the language for daily situations, and emphasizes understanding, speaking, reading and writing.

- Comprehend the language pronunciation rules;

- Communicate in simple daily communication such as greetings, making friends, talking about daily activities.

Elementary Vietnamese 2 (E2)

 

 

80 periods

- Drill learners in pronunciation;

- Give learners basic language skills for everyday living, including carrying on simple conversations, getting directions, and shopping.

- Pronounce the sounds of the Vietnamese language with near-native pronunciation.

- Participate in and carry out simple conversations such as ordering food, asking for directions, getting information on public transportation.

Lesson 7-12

 

Elementary Vietnamese 3 (E3)

 

 

80 periods

- The course gives learners basic language skills for everyday living, such as shopping, travelling, carrying on simple conversations in hospital, hotel, on the phone.

 

- Participate in and carry on simple conversations in such situations as shopping, meeting doctors, booking and checking in a hotel, talking on the phone;

- Use some special grammatical structures to express agreement, denial, description and evaluation.

Elementary Vietnamese 4 (E4)

 

80 periods

- This course gives learners language skills to communicate in practical situations, as well as to write Vietnamese at a basic level on common topics such as professions, housing, hobbies and habits.

 

- Communicate in common social situations such as renting a house, conversing on professions, hobbies and habits, describing people identity or personality;

- Use some complex grammatical structures.

Intermediate Vietnamese 1 (I1)

 

 

 

80 periods

- This course brings leaners to a higher level of fluency in comprehension, speaking, and reading non-specialized materials. Class work consists of readings, listening comprehension exercises, and guided conversations.

- Differentiate and use the informal language in speaking as well as formal language in written Vietnamese;

- Exchange ideas and discuss such topics as health, working and learning, money issues.

Intermediate Vietnamese 2 (I2)

 

 

 

80 periods

- This course emphasizes integrated four skill practices based on grammar enhancement drills and development of native-like conversational ability about the topics discussed.

- Easily engage in simple and complex conversations in a variety of social settings as well as clearly present ideas in written texts using proper grammar and word choice;

- Exchange personal ideas and discuss everyday topics such as costume, family relations and cultural customs.

Intermediate Vietnamese 3 (I3)

 

80 periods

- This course focuses on accuracy and fluency with integrated skill practices together with vocabulary increase based on the topics on past events, future time, and present social issues.

- Effectively and accurately use language skills with informal conversational style and formal written style in a variety of daily social topics.

Intermediate Vietnamese 4 (I4)

 

 

80 periods

This course emphasizes the increasing vocabulary and drilling complex grammar structures used in spoken Vietnamese and written Vietnamese within such topics as sport events, urban and rural, cultural customs, etc.

Students should have native-like language ability in both verbal and written communication, so that they are able to exchange ideas and discuss such cultural and social topics as urban and rural, recreation and entertainment activities, culture and customs of different countries.

Advanced Vietnamese 1

(A1)

 

 

 

 

80 periods

This course is designed for learners at or beyond a threshold level of fluency in all four skills of Vietnamese. The course consists of advanced materials from newspapers, television and other mass media. Students will explore the language and Vietnamese culture through variety of current issue concerned topics such as environment, inventions, love and modern family, etc.

- Achieve advanced language skills that enable them to effectively communicate in social Vietnamese speaking environment;

- Communicate, discuss and debate about the current issues in various fields as climate, environment, techniques, marriage and other cultural themes.

(A2)

- This course continues to train students to master the four language skills so that they will thrive in social, academic and professional environment.

- In this course, teachers use textbook and authentic materials on various social and cultural themes to stimulate conversations in class.

- Watch, listen and discuss the news on TV, newspapers, internet and other mass media;

- Read and write many types of text as well as being able to communicate effectively in social, professional and academic Vietnamese speaking environment.
